The Kopje Journal & Review

Accessibility statement

Last updated 3 October 2026

The Kopje Journal & Review aims to make its reporting and evidence accessible to readers with different abilities, devices and connection speeds. Our website improvement target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA.

Features available on this website

  • A skip-to-content link, page headings and labelled navigation help readers move through a page.
  • The mobile menu can be operated with a keyboard. Escape closes it and returns focus to the menu control.
  • Visible focus indicators, readable text and KJR-blue controls support navigation without relying only on colour.
  • Pages adapt to narrow screens and browser zoom. Text remains selectable and the website does not depend on custom web fonts.
  • Audits provide written analysis alongside video. Uploaded editorial images require text descriptions in Publisher.
  • Optional video embeds are blocked until you choose to allow them. Cookie choices remain available from every footer.

Known limitations

This website has not undergone a complete independent accessibility audit, and we do not claim full WCAG conformance. The completeness and quality of image descriptions can vary across the archive. Maps, charts and externally sourced documents may contain information that is not fully conveyed in their text alternatives.

YouTube player accessibility and captions depend partly on YouTube and the individual upload. A written audit is not necessarily a verbatim transcript of its video. External payment and social services have their own accessibility features and limitations.

Report a barrier or request another format

Email [email protected] with the page address, the problem and the format or assistance that would help. Browser and assistive-technology details can help us investigate, but you do not need to disclose a disability or medical information.

We will review the request and explain what we can provide or improve. If a particular graphic or document is difficult to use, identify the information you need so we can consider an accessible explanation.

Ongoing improvement

Accessibility is part of our continuing editorial and website work. We prioritise barriers that prevent access to reporting, navigation, contact and privacy controls. Reader feedback helps identify issues that automated checks alone cannot establish.
