The Kopje Journal & Review
European & UK privacy rights
Last updated 3 October 2026
This page supplements our privacy statement for people whose information is protected by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), applicable EEA rules or the UK GDPR. The availability of a website in a country does not, by itself, determine every legal obligation; rights below apply where the relevant law and circumstances provide them.
Your data-protection rights
- Access: ask whether we process personal information about you and request a copy and relevant information.
- Correction: ask us to correct inaccurate information or complete incomplete information.
- Erasure and restriction: ask for deletion or limits on processing where the legal conditions are met.
- Objection: object on grounds relating to your circumstances where processing relies on legitimate interests. A right to object to direct marketing applies if such processing is undertaken.
- Portability: request qualifying information you supplied in a commonly used, machine-readable format where automated processing is based on consent or a contract.
- Withdrawal: withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
These rights are not absolute. Lawful recordkeeping, the rights of others and rules protecting journalism and freedom of expression may affect the response. We assess a request in context rather than treating the editorial archive as automatically exempt.
Make a request
Email [email protected] with “Privacy request” in the subject. Explain what information or interaction your request concerns and the outcome you seek. Do not send a passport or other sensitive identity document unless we explain why proportionate verification is needed.
Where GDPR timing rules apply, requests are normally answered within one month. Where a permitted extension is necessary, we will explain it within the initial period. Requests are normally free; any lawful exception must be explained.
To withdraw optional-video consent immediately, use Cookie choices and select Reject optional. Reading the written archive does not depend on accepting optional media.
Raise a concern
You may contact us first, but you do not have to do so before exercising a right to complain to a competent supervisory authority. For EU/EEA authorities, consult the European Data Protection Board’s member directory. For the UK, see the Information Commissioner’s Office.
